Toby Adams: Riding High in the Rodeo Arena

Toby Adams is one of Australia's toughest bull riders. With a fearless spirit and unwavering determination, Toby is making his mark in the world of professional bull riding.

23 year-old Mendooran cowboy Toby Adams was born into the rodeo lifestyle. As a boy Toby spent weekends travelling the country with parents Matt and Rachel who were passionate rodeo stock contractors.

Toby began riding calves at the age of 6, gradually progressing to junior bulls by the time he was 14. He took a hiatus from rodeo for a few years to pursue a career in pro motocross, but at the age of 18 his roots beckoned him back and he returned to rodeo to compete in the open bull ride.

In August 2023, Toby travelled to Odessa College in Texas to pursue his passion for bull riding. However, his time there was cut short by a serious injury, prompting his return home for rehabilitation. Despite setbacks, he managed to participate in a few events towards the end of 2023. Throughout this challenging period, he found support and guidance from a fellow rider from the Texas Rattlers and and he emerged with a renewed determination to pursue his dreams in the arena.

Fitness and well-being is paramount in the demanding world of bull riding. Toby practices on six bulls weekly, engages in daily sessions on the bucking drum, and incorporates stretching and workouts into his routine without fail. Toby believes in listening to his body as a key strategy for maintaining health and performance longevity.

As for superstitions, Toby doesn't have any particular rituals. However, he likes to use the same type of rope and has a consistent warm-up routine which helps him achieve the mental and physical readiness required for each ride.

Toby has encountered his fair share of injuries throughout his motocross and bull riding careers. His recent bull riding injuries include a broken arm, broken ribs, a dislocated hip, and a torn groin.

While he doesn't adhere to a strict diet regimen, he conscientiously monitors his dietary choices, which is no easy feat with the demands of constant travel.

Toby has his sights set on returning to the United States to pursue his bull riding career stateside. Planning a three-month stint this year, Toby plans to consolidate his presence in the American rodeo circuit in the coming years. His ultimate goal? To claim the illustrious title of world champion.

Toby Adams thrives on the adrenaline rush he gets when he is competing against one of nature's toughest opponents - the bucking bull. He loves the challenge of staying on a powerful bull for eight seconds, an exhilarating test both physically and mentally.

Apart from the thrill of the ride, Toby enjoys the tight-knit camaraderie shared among fellow bull riders and the strong sense of community in the rodeo industry.
